On this National Science Day, I would like to thank Dr. Vineet Soni, an esteemed Indian plant physiologist, biotechnologist, and social activist. Born into a legacy of scientific excellence as the son of the renowned botanist Professor P.L. Swarnkar.
He is widely recognized for his groundbreaking work in plant bioenergetics and recently he is honored as the 'Father of Indian Plant Bioenergetics.' His research has significantly advanced our understanding of plant physiology and biotechnology, earning him international recognition. As an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology and the Linnean Society of London, he has cemented his place among the leading scientists in his field.
Beyond his academic achievements, he is a dedicated conservationist. He is the founder of the "Save Guggul Movement," a pioneering community-based conservation effort aimed at protecting threatened plant species, particularly guggul (Commiphora wightii). His tireless efforts in biodiversity conservation have made a lasting impact on environmental sustainability and plant preservation in India.
Currently, he is Head of the Department of Botany and Associate Dean, College of Science at Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur. Under his leadership, the department continues to flourish as a center for excellence in botanical research and education.
On this special occasion of National Science Day, we honor Dr. Vineet Soni for his invaluable contributions to science and society. His dedication and pioneering work inspire future generations of scientists to pursue research with passion and purpose, ensuring a sustainable future for our planet.
